MIL Football Roundup: Baldwin downs the Saber 35-13 at War Memorial Stadium Friday

WAILUKU – The Baldwin Bears improved to 4-2 Friday night at War Memorial Stadium in Kahului when they defeated the Maui Sabers 35-13. The Sabers fell to 1-3 on the year with the loss and will next play the Lahainaluna Lunas (3-3) on Saturday, Oct. 5, at War Memorial Stadium with a 7 p.m. kickoff time, before playing a rematch with the Bears on Oct. 18, after enjoying a bye week.

The Baldwin Bears will take a bye week to prepare for a rematch with the Lahainaluna Lunas on Friday, Oct. 11, with a 7 p.m. kickoff time.

The Bears fell to Lahainaluna 24-7 on Sept. 20, despite scoring a touchdown in the first quarter to take the lead 7-0 on a Max Kushi 51-yard touchdown run. Lunas Senior Kahi Magno had a one-yard rushing touchdown and a 14-yard touchdown run in the win for Lahainaluna in September against the Bears. Jaeden-Ian Pascua threw a 24-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter of the game to put it out of reach for the Bears.

In MIL 8-man action, Lanai defeated the Hana Dragons 42-0 at War Memorial Stadium on Thursday, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, eight in the second, six in the third, and 16 in the fourth quarter. The offensive output came with a dominant defensive at the hands of the Lanai Pine Lads, who moved to 4-0 on the season.

The Pine Lads are averaging 46.5 points a game in their four contests, only allowing an average of five and a half points. The Dragons and Pine Lads will face off in a rematch on Oct. 5.

Also in MIL 8-man, The Seabury Hall Spartans took down the Kulanihakoi Rays on Thursday at War Memorial Stadium 20-0 behind a three-touchdown effort, one of which came on special teams. Taylor Hammer had a rushing touchdown and a return for a touchdown in the win, with Liam Dunne adding a receiving touchdown in the winning effort to put the Spartans at 2-2 for the season.

The Molokai Farmers kicked off against the Kekaulike Na Alii on Saturday at 11 a.m. in Molokai.
