WAILUKU–South Maui Gardens was filled with hope and community spirit as the Rotary Club of Kihei Wailea and the Rotary Satellite Club of Kihei Wailea hosted a special Peace Pole Dedication on World Peace Day. The event drew a great turnout, with community members coming together to celebrate the universal desire for peace.

The ceremony was blessed by esteemed community member Kimokea Kapahulehua, who shared heartfelt words about the importance of fostering peace both locally and globally. Attendees gathered around the newly installed Peace Pole, a symbol of unity and a reminder of our shared responsibility to promote peace in our world.

Jay Satenstein, president of the Rotary Club of Kihei Wailea said, “When you get a chance come and sit in this beautiful garden …and reflect on the saying May Peace Prevail on Earth and imagine a world without conflict”

Maile Kekona, chair of the Rotary Satellite Club of Kihei Wailea, “In times of uncertainty and division, this Peace Pole stands as a reminder that we must actively seek commonalities–our shared hopes for peace, respect, and kindness–so that we can build a stronger, more compassionate community and world. “

Alison Barrera, owner of Da Green Coffee at South Maui Gardens and member of the Rotary Satellite Club of Kihei Wailea said, “On this momentous day, we celebrate international peace. My appreciation goes out to fellow Rotarians who have collaborated with me to bring this aspiration to fruition. South Maui Gardens and Da Green concur that global peace makes all accomplishments possible.”

World Peace Day, recognized on September 21st of each year, encourages individuals and communities to reflect on the importance of peace. The Peace Pole, adorned with the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in multiple languages, stands as a beacon of hope and an invitation for all to join in the pursuit of harmony.

In a heartfelt touch, the beautiful lei presented for the peace pole was lovingly crafted by club members, symbolizing the interconnectedness of our community and the beauty of diversity.

The event was not only a dedication of the Peace Pole but also a celebration of the commitment to peace that resonates deeply within the Kihei Wailea community. As we look to the future, the Rotary Clubs reaffirm their dedication to promoting peace initiatives and community engagement.

In the afternoon, both Rotary Clubs also presented a Peace Pole to the Hale Pono Shelter.
