‘Sharks After Dark’ goes country on Sept. 21

The Maui News

WAILUKU–Maui Ocean Center will celebrate the arrival of autumn with a country-themed “Sharks After Dark” event from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

The 21-and-older night will feature country tunes and line dance lessons by Carlos Molina, a 360-degree selfie station, diver presentations (at both 7 and 8 p.m.) and showings of the immersive “Humpbacks of Hawai’i” 3D experience. Themed attire is encouraged.

“Dust off those cowboy boots and join us for one of our final ‘Sharks After Dark’ events of the year,” said Ryan Corbett, Maui Ocean Center’s marketing coordinator. “This will be a fun night where guests can not only view our exhibits after hours, but they’ll also have the opportunity to let loose on the dancefloor and even play a round of cornhole in the courtyard.”

Country comfort food will be available for purchase at Reef Café along with beer, wine, themed cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages. The menu includes Molokai Venison Chili, Portuguese Bean Soup, BBQ Baby Back Ribs, Paniolo Smash Burger and Roasted Root Vegetables.

For dessert, choose from “Aloha Cowboy” or “Aloha Cowgirl” fudge at the aquarium’s gift store, Maui Ocean Treasures, which will be offering 15 percent off regular priced items during the event (some exclusions apply). “We also have a limited quantity of flannel plaid shirts and trucker hats currently in stock,” said store manager Sandy Fujiwara.

Additionally, Hex Press Maui will sell exclusive T-shirts created for the event, and Uncle Victor Pula will offer custom-fit paniolo hats for purchase.

Admission is $25 per person at mauioceancenter.com/reservations (or $35 the day of the event). Annual members receive free entry. For more information on membership, visit mauioceancenter.com/membership.
