Hawaii gay marriage case judge allows input

May 3, 2012
The Associated Press

HONOLULU (AP) - A federal judge says the Christian organization Hawaii Family Forum may participate in a legal case addressing the issue of gay marriage.

Senior U.S. District Judge Alan Kay ruled that the group has established enough of an interest in the laws to warrant the granting of its request to intervene in the case.

The case involves a lawsuit filed against the state by two Kapolei, Oahu, women, Natasha Jackson and Janin Kleid. The couple say they're being denied their constitutional right to marry.

They say they need to be married in order to get certain federal benefits.

Kay says Hawaii Family Forum could assist him in providing a comprehensive and broad analysis of the issues.
