Talk story event for Kia'aina

LAHAINA - Congressional candidate Esther Kia'aina will be at a "talk story" event at 5 p.m. Friday at Beach Ministry Community Church.

She is seeking the Democratic nomination to the U.S. House seat being vacated by Rep. Mazie Hirono, who is running for the U.S. Senate seat held by retiring Sen. Daniel Akaka.

According to her campaign website, Kia'aina served as chief of staff to former Congressman Ed Case from 2003 to 2007, was chief of staff and legislative director for former Guam Rep. Robert Underwood from 1999 to 2003, and was legislative assistant to Akaka from 1990 to 1999.

She cites as an accomplishment her work on the "Apology Bill" in which Congress apologized for the U.S. overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1893.

The church is in the West Maui Center at 910 Honoapiilani Highway.
