Islands Hospice received a certificate of need to open up a facility in Kahului. It would be the island's second hospice facility, joining longtime Hospice Maui. Do you:

  1. Support the opening of a second hospice facility.
  2. Oppose the opening of a second hospice facility.
  3. Don't know

My name is Cheryl, I have been an employee at Islands Hospice for almost 3 years. It has been such a great experience to watch this company grow. I truly believe our growth is not only because of our caring and compassionate staff, but mainly because of the voices of our patients, their families, Doctor's and others in the community who have experienced the care we provide. Here on Oahu we have built great relationships with the other hospices. In my own experience I have developed wonderful friendships with staff of other hospices, while working together at facilities. I have mentioned employment to many of my friends and family on Maui and they are happy to know that there will be more available healthcare jobs on the island.I am very fortunate to be a part of such a dedicated company, especially when their ultimate dedication is to our Patients and their Families. Think about it, if your main concern is quality care for patients it shouldn't matter what company its coming from.

I have been working for Islands Hospice for close to two years as Bereavement Coordinator. I am proud to be a part of this organization as we are all very committed to our patients and loved ones in a lovingly genuine, caring, and competent manner. We are a well run organization with a strong team that is devoted to our community’s well-being.

Two hospices but only ONE hospital. Strange.

Your Poll Title is very misleading! Of course no one would want to oppose more hospice care, but they should know what is really happening here. Most know that Hospice Maui's existence arose from this community's need, and its governing body consists of Maui community members. In the absence of an obvious need, another hospice wanting to open here is in response to a perceived opportunity to make money. If there were no insurance money available for providing hospice service there would suddenly be no others interested, just Hospice Maui.

I think this Poll is very misleading, Island Hospice is different then Hospice and will not be "JOINING" them, it will be another facility, which means that more MONEY will be going to ADMIN then family care...What we need is more money to build a hospice facility to house patients, not another office to get more business. PLEASE CHANGE THIS POLL SO THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE TRUE MEANING. OF Course people want more "hospice" care, but what you're not telling them is that this doesn't mean more care for our families, it means another "business" trying to get your business. NOT RIGHT....PEOPLE BEFORE PROFIT!!
