Ask Marilyn: More on Drawing From Different Piles of Cards

Nancy Earlywine of Lexington, Kentucky, writes:

Marilyn: Your answer about whether it is fair to split a deck (or decks) of cards into separate piles caught my attention as this has long been a source of contention in our card-playing group. (August 26, 2012) Is it still fair when wild cards are involved? In our game, we play with two decks that contain eight wild cards. Are the chances of drawing a wild card any different if you divide the decks on each side of the game board instead of just having one pile to draw from?

Marilyn responds:

Yes, it's still fair, and no, it's no different! Assuming you shuffle the decks together first, it's the same as having one big pile.
