Jackson Bunch of Paia competes in the National Scholastic Surfing Association championships that took place July 2-3 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Bunch finished first in explorer super groms (10 and under), and placed second in open mini groms. Maui had 10 other top-six finishes in the explorer competition, including the top two spots in the all-ages stand-up paddling division - Axel Rosenblad of Makawao finished first, and Lahaina's Shelby Schweitzer was second. Imaikalani deVault of Makawao was third in men (all ages), and sixth in juniors (17 and under). Lahaina's Summer Macedo was third in 14 and under girls. Kailuna Paula of Hana was fourth in super groms and Miles Serafica of Makawao was fourth in all-ages longboard. In the menehune (12 and under) division, Cole Alves of Kula was fourth, and Tony Nunez of Lahaina finished sixth. Logan Bediamol of Haiku finished sixth in boys 14 and under.
