The 2014 edition of the Maui Film Festival opens Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. reception at Capische? at the Hotel Wailea.
Five days of outstanding feature films and documentaries will be mixed with tributes to stars of the silver screen and special events like the Friday's Taste of Chocolate and Saturday's Taste of Wailea.
This year, a new venue for showing films has been added to the lineup. The Seaside Cinema Music Cafe & Sunset Lounge at the Grand Wailea will host five films. The Celestial Cinema at the Wailea Golf Course Amphitheater will show double features each night of the festival.
The Castle Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center will show films every day and the McCoy Theater at the MACC will have three screenings on Sunday.
Celebrities that will be honored with tributes are: Emma Roberts, 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Seaside Cinema; Evan Rachel Wood, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Seaside Cinema; Joe Manganiello, 10 p.m. Friday at the Celestial Cinema; and Lupita Nyong'o, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Seaside Cinema.
The Maui Film Festival was founded and nurtured by Barry and Stella Rivers. Thanks to their efforts, Maui sees films and documentaries that go on to win accolades throughout the industry.
