1914 - Some three months ago quite a few young men got together and decided to start a new moving picture show house. The building is to be put up on the Goodness property on Market Street, but the land is yet to be cleared off.

1939 - M. McInerny's traveling ambassadors will arrive on Maui tomorrow and will remain at the Maui Grand Hotel for two weeks. Mrs. Van Nuys will show gowns, accessories, lingerie, cosmetics and foundation garments. Mr. Brown has with him a full line of suits, ties and spring sweaters. Mr. Rodrigues will display shoes, plus hosiery for women in the new shades.

1964 - On Wednesday the King Theatre will show Hongo Kojiro in "Kodokan No Washi," plus the Heavyweight Championship Fight - Cassius Clay vs Sonny Liston. On Thursday, the fight film will be repeated and shown with Marlon Brando in "Mutiny on the Bounty."

1989 - Pauwela fisherman Stanley Bascar says after nearly 75 years of trying, he catches more fish in Kahului Harbor than ever before. Maybe that's just because he has his technique down pat. Bascar said Wednesday's catch would be prepared for dinner his favorite way. "Deep-fry. That's the best," he said. "Deep-fry, one bowl of poi and a Pepsi."

2004 - Frank De Lima, here to entertain at the Maui Beach Hotel this weekend, was testing the Imperial Japanese Buffet next door at the Maui Palms, and chatting with Mike Kitagawa and Bonnie Friedman. His favorite food in the buffet? The Maui sweet potato tempura. Oh, so ono.
