Visitor from Wichita found unresponsive
A 55-year-old Kansas man was pronounced dead after he was found floating facedown Sunday in waters off Black Rock in Kaanapali, police said.
He was identified as Ronald Sauber of Wichita.
Emergency workers tried to revive Sauber, but he died at the scene, police said.
An autopsy is pending.
Police seek male in Kihei robbery
Police are looking for a male who brandished a pocketknife during a robbery Sunday night at Blackie's Pit Stop IV in Kihei.
The robbery was reported at 10:10 p.m. at the business on Manao Kala Street.
Police said the male brandished the knife and demanded money from a cashier. After money was handed over, the robber fled, police said.
He was described as 5 feet 2 inches tall and of slim build. The robber wore a hooded sweatshirt and a black bandanna covering the bottom part of his face.
Man faces charges in Kihei abuse case
Bail was set at $4,000 for a Kihei man who was charged with abusing his wife in two incidents this month.
Paula Ngalu, 42, also was charged with second-degree assault for hitting his wife with a wooden stool, causing pain to her head and face, in an incident at about 10 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Police were again called to his residence at 2:07 a.m. Sunday when his wife reported she was again hit by Ngalu, police said.
Ngalu was located at the residence and arrested at 1:50 p.m. Sunday. He was charged with two counts of abuse and second-degree assault.
DOT announces Maui construction
The state Department of Transportation has announced that work on Maui County roads this week is scheduled in the following areas:
* Lane closures will occur in both directions of North Kihei Road between Honoapiilani and Piilani highways from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. today through Friday for road repairs.
* One lane will be closed in the northbound direction of Kuihelani Highway between Honoapiilani Highway and Puunene Avenue from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. today through Friday for road repairs.
* There will be lane closures in both directions of Honoapiilani Highway between Kahana Nui Road and Kaanapali Parkway from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. today through Friday for road repairs.
* Honoapiilani Highway will experience lane closures in both directions between Kuihelani Highway and Kapoli Street from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday for road repairs.
Something touched lines, led to outage
A power outage in Kihei and Wailea on Friday afternoon was caused by something coming into contact with power lines, which caused a short, Maui Electric Co. said Monday.
Kau'i Awai-Dickson, MECO spokeswoman, said that it was unclear what came into contact with the line. The determination was made following an inspection of electrical lines and equipment in the Kihei and Wailea areas.
The outage affected about 15,000 customers. Power was restored to all customers in 40 minutes.
