1939 - The juniors feted the seniors in the Maui High School auditorium on Saturday night as more than 300 danced in merriment at the Junior Prom. King Wa Joong Lum and Queen Cecilia Melancon ruled supreme. Their appearance was marked by the grand march led by Alfred Moniz and Yuriko Hatanaka.

1964 - Groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Lahaina Shopping Center will take place at 4:30 on Monday, according to Keith Tester, manager of Pioneer Mill Co. and George Hasegawa, Lahaina Shopping Center. In a joint statement, they said the location of the ceremony will be in the middle of the former cane field bounded by Front Street, Papalaua Street, Wainee Street and Lahainaluna Road.

1989 - A trial underway in 2nd Circuit Court will make legal history in Hawaii when evidence on genetic "fingerprinting" is presented by a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In using newly developed genetic fingerprinting methods, strands of the genetic coding in DNA are analyzed and compared to the DNA in other samples.

2004 - Members of the Hokulani Hula Studio of Kanagawa, Japan, performed during the Celebration of the Arts at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. The group led by kumu hula Takako Hori was making its second trip to the annual Easter weekend event. Hori said performing in Hawaii was invigorating. "We want to feel aloha spirit in our dancing," Hori said through an interpreter.
