Antonio Ayson Purugganan, 93, of Wailuku, passed away on March 20, 2014 at home under the care of Hospice Maui.
He was born on June 28, 1920 in Pozorrubio, Pangasinan, Philippines. He married Perpetua Mendoza on November 27, 1944 and was part of the group of Sakada's from the Philippines that arrived in Hawaii in April 1946. He retired from Wailuku Sugar Company after over 32 years of employment and he also worked at the Hyatt Regency Maui. He enjoyed watching boxing, volleyball and baseball but his passion was cockfighting. He raised and trained roosters for fighting.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Perpetua Purugganan; daughters, Leonora (Emilio) Calibuso and Lorna (Edward Jr.) Bediamol; he was blessed with 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Borthwick Norman's Mortuary, with visitation from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; services at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Anthony Church, Wailuku. Visitation will start from 8:30 a.m.; Mass at 9:00 a.m.; followed by burial at 10:30 a.m. at Maui Memorial Park, Garden of Meditation.
