Rainbow Warriors win Big West opener

Matt Cooper pitched a complete game as the University of Hawaii baseball team won for the sixth time in seven games, defeating UC Santa Barbara 3-1 on Friday at Santa Barbara, Calif., in the Big West opener for both teams.

Marcus Doi was 3-for-4 with a run and RBI for the Rainbow Warriors (13-12).

Cooper (3-1) allowed six hits while striking out nine batters and walking two.

The Gauchos, No. 15 in the Baseball America rankings, fell to 18-4.

Justin Jacome (4-1) took the loss, permitting three runs in 6 1/3 innings.

The teams are to meet again today.
