Special showing at McCoy Studio

March 13, 2014
The Maui News
“DAKOTA 38” Documentary. 1:58. McCoy Studio Theater. 7:30 tonight. Free admission.
In spring 2005, Lakota Spiritual Leader Jim Miller dreamed that he rode 330 miles on horseback, eventually coming to a riverbank in Mankato, Minn., where he saw 38 of his ancestors hanged. He soon discovered that he had dreamed of the largest mass hanging in U.S. history, which was ordered by President Abraham Lincoln and took place on Dec. 26, 1862, just months after the end of the U.S.-Dakota War. In December 2008, Jim and many others retraced the dream route on horseback to bring healing and reconciliation to all. The film tells the story of this journey. A Q&A session with Jim Miller to follow.
