Intermediate school wrestling champions crowned

Members of the Iao School team celebrate after winning the girls title in the Maui Intermediate School Wrestling Championships on Friday at the Baldwin gym in Wailuku. Iao had six individual champions — Waipuilani Estrella Beauchamp at 91 pounds, McKenzie Acob at 97, Jahnea Miguel at 101, Tessie Kapaa-Kaohu at 105, Taysia Pimentel at 155 and Celine Gomes at 220 — and finished with 29 points, two better than second-place Lahaina Intermediate. Molokai won the boys crown with 28 points, and Lahaina was second with 25. The Molokai boys champions were Cale Manley (95), Chevy Agustiro (105), Haoli Caparida (110), Jason Lalim (115), Ikua Deponte (127) and Raydeen Deneff (142). The outstanding wrestlers of the tournament were Lahaina’s Sami Saribay, the girls 85-pound champion, and Kalama’s Kainalu Estrella, who took the boys’ 120 title. The other boys winners were Iao’s Kamahao Kang (77), Kolby Inouye (84) and Kainoa Morriera (134); Lahaina’s Kawehi Gillcoat (90), Bootsie Christie (100), Armani Treu (158) and Thomas Luuloa (167); Maui Waena’s Frank Galios (150), Sami Oto (180) and Taniela Oto (200); and Lokelani’s Motuila Malafu (heavyweight). The other girls champions were Lahaina’s Kierra Baraodian (75), Lea Campos (109), Taylor Hayase (125), Dasha Kalikane (130), Noe Keahi (140) and Saje Kanemitsu (175); Lokelani’s Katarina Fernandez (117) and Kalama’s Sela Panuve (121).
