The ninth annual Celebration of Hawai'i Invitational exhibition, with the 2014 theme of the ocean, opens with a reception at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Makawao gallery.
Oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, wood, ceramic, stone, metal, fiber, photography, jewelry, glass and kapa pieces explore Hawaii's ocean culture. Collectors from around the state and beyond survey the exhibition, which features some of the islands' most accomplished artists.

Kumu hula Gordean Bailey and her Halau Wehiwehi O Leilehua open the exhibit with a blessing, followed by dances highlighting the ancient and contemporary art form of hula.
A Hawaiian Tea Time event, featuring Hawaiian teas and sweets, a fashion show and hula, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14.

The fourth annual Maui Open Studios, three weekends of self-guided tours that feature more than 85 local artists, kicks off with an opening celebration and preview exhibition from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu.
Participating artists and artisans will meet with guests during the opening. Preview work, enjoy a cash bar, no-host pupus and live music; and pick up a MOS Guidebook with a directory of artists and maps.
Design your own self-guided tour through the exhibition spaces and studios under the following area titles: Upcountry (Feb. 8 and 9); Central Maui, North Shore, Road to Hana and Hana (Feb. 15 to 16); and West and South Maui (Feb. 22 to 23).
"Georgia O'Keeffe's Hawai'i: A Talk by Patricia Jennings," a free satellite event, will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center. Guests must RSVP to mauiopen firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Visitors who enjoy the arts will find Maui Open Studios a rewarding tour option," said Cheryl Sterling, Maui County Office of Economic Development cultural programs specialist. "The tour plays out like a treasure hunt - using the MOS Guidebook with maps of studio locations. . . . The found treasures are many . . . from paintings to blown glass, ceramics and sculpture; to wood carvings, photographs and unique jewelry - all reflective of the inspired people who call Maui island home."
Village Galleries presents "All About Maui," a George Allan exhibition, which opens with a free public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 120 Dickenson St., Lahaina.
Allan will be demonstrating palette knife oil painting from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 7 at the gallery. The show continues through Feb. 19.
