Matthew Piarce gives son Collin a push while teaching him how to body board in small surf Wednesday afternoon at Mokuleia Beach, the secluded spot also known as "Slaughterhouse." The dad from Southern California said it was fun to pass along his appreciation for Maui. "My parents brought me here when I was a kid," he said. "I got to enjoy it as a youth, and now it is a double pleasure to experience it with my kids." The National Weather Service issued a high-surf warning through 6 p.m. Friday for north-facing shores of Maui and north- and west-facing shores of Molokai. Surf was forecast to rise as high as 25 to 35 feet this afternoon and evening. People enjoy the surf and sand Wednesday at Mokuleia Beach.
