UCLA sends UH to first loss of season

The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team fell short in its attempt to claim the Outrigger Invitational, falling 25-19, 14-25, 25-19, 25-16 to UCLA on Saturday at the Stan Sheriff?Center in Honolulu.

Sinisa Zarkovic and Jace Olsen each had 13 kills for the Rainbow Warriors (2-1), ranked 14th in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Joby Ramos had 36 assists and Kolby Kanetake had 10 digs.

Robart Page finished with 16 kills and Trent Kersten and Gonzalo Quiroga each added 10 for the No. 7 Bruins (3-1), who have won the tournament nine times.

In the day's first match, 11th-ranked Penn State was a 28-26, 25-20, 25-19 winner over No. 12 Ohio State.

The Rainbow Warriors will begin Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play with home matches against Long Beach?State on Thursday and Friday.
