Rainbow Warriors open conference slate with loss to Mustangs

The University of Hawaii men's basketball team opened its Big West schedule with a 77-65 loss to Cal Poly on Thursday in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Garrett Nevels scored 16 points for the Rainbow Warriors (11-4), who had won their previous four games. Christian Standhardinger added 15 points, and Isaac Fotu had 13 points and seven rebounds.

David Nwaba and Chris Eversley each scored 17 points for the Mustangs (5-9, 1-0 Big West), and Jamal Johnson had 15. Eversley also had nine rebounds.

Hawaii will play on the road against Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
