The University of Hawaii women's basketball team blew a big first-half lead and lost to Cal Poly 78-74 on Wednesday in the Big West opener for both teams at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu.
Jonae Ervin finished with 37 points and 10 rebounds for the Mustangs (5-10), who trailed by 17 points with seven minutes, 11 seconds remaining in the first half.
Sydney Haydel scored 18 points, Kamilah Jackson added 17 points and 16 rebounds and Ashleigh Karaitiana had 15 points for the Rainbow Wahine (6-7).
Hawaii's Kalei Adolpho, a Molokai High School alumnus, had five points and five rebounds. She finished 0-of-6 from the field.
Ariana Elegado added 15 points and Molly Schlemer added 10 points and nine rebounds for Cal Poly, the three-time defending league champion.
The Rainbow Wahine made their first home appearance in 38 days.
Hawaii's next game is Sunday against visiting Cal State Northridge.
