I've oft accused The Maui News of being blindly pro-government/pro-big business.
That said, I have to laud it for taking such a strong position against the Maui County Council regarding its violation of the state Sunshine Law (The Maui News, Dec. 12). It is there to protect our people from backroom politics. It's unfortunate that our voters will not take a similar stand.
What is it that the council is hiding in the 75 percent redacted portions of its minutes? Are council members' intentions honorable?
Why are they attacking the mayor regarding the post office fiasco anyhow? They knew all about it before it happened. Why didn't they act then? (And aside, why did they circumvent the usual, accepted procedures for hiring our shiny new (old?) county clerk? Cronyism?) Perhaps the Office of Information Practices case judge should simply order the whole lot of them into jail until they comply, just like he would a reporter who defied a court order.
Voters, where is your outrage?
