1938 - Students of Maunaolu Seminary will hold a Christmas sale of homemade jellies, jams, pickles and doughnuts from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, according to Miss Rose Faast, principal. The sale will include fancy work of towels and place cards, she said.

1963 - Market Street will be closed to traffic tonight for a parade planned to honor a VIP scheduled to visit Maui. Santa Claus is expected to arrive via sleigh and reindeer this afternoon from the North Pole, and the Wailuku merchants are going all out to give him a "Maui No Ka Oi" welcome.

1988 - Fifty members of Maui's motorcycle clubs banded together yesterday to conduct their annual Toys for Tots collection campaign. They delivered several truckloads of toys and gifts to Maui Memorial Hospital to brighten up the holidays for hospitalized children.

2003 - Approximately 850 students in five grade divisions from 13 Maui County schools sang their hearts out during Friday's Na Mele O Maui song competition in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Maui. Molokai High and Intermediate School students won the overall and Hawaiian language awards and placed first in their division.
