Dusty Payne of Lahaina won his opening two heats Sunday in the Billabong Pipe Masters on Oahu's North Shore.
Lahaina's Granger Larsen was eliminated in the second round of the finale of both the Triple Crown of Surfing and the Association of Surfing Professionals season. Olamana Eleogram of Hana did not get past the first round.
Payne, who is trying to keep his spot on the ASP world tour, defeated Reef McIntosh of Kauai in the first round and California's Brett Simpson in the second round to reach a pairing with Australia's Joel Parkinson, last year's series champion.
