Rescuers help man after fall off horse
A 64-year-old man fell off his horse in Kanaio on Saturday afternoon, and firefighters airlifted him to an ambulance that took him to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable condition, said Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga.
Kula firefighters and the Kahului Fire Station's rescue company received the alarm of the man being in distress at 4:35 p.m., Mainaga said. They responded to a location between Mileposts 17 and 18 on Piilani Highway, and the helicopter crew spotted the man about a mile down an unimproved road, known as Kanaio Road. They hauled him out by air to a landing zone off the highway.
The man sustained a laceration to his head and complained of back pain.
MEO to hold events to consider center
Maui Economic Opportunity Inc. is hosting two public meetings Thursday to discuss the development of a one-call/one-click transportation coordination center.
The center aims to simplify locating information about available transportation and scheduling rides for residents.
The meetings are scheduled for 10 to 11 a.m. in the Waiola Church hall, 535 Wainee St. in Lahaina, and from 3 to 4 p.m. at MEO's facility located at 99 Mahalani St. in Wailuku.
Information will be available about the Veteran's Transportation One-Call/One-Click project. It has been secured by a Maui County grant from the Veterans Transportation and Community Living Initiative. The grant is designed to help public agencies and organizations address transportation challenges faced by veterans, service members and their families.
