Ho'oilo House can now host weddings
The bed-and-breakfast Ho'oilo House in Lahaina will now be able to host weddings.
It is the first West Maui property - and third on the island - to gain permit approval from the Maui County Council to host weddings on agricultural land, according to an announcement last week. The owners worked through the permit process for several years before finally gaining county approval.
"We look forward to hosting small and intimate weddings at Ho'oilo House," co-owner Amy Wisthoff-Martin said in a statement. "We will offer a variety of packages to accommodate everything from an eloping couple to a larger event with 25 guests."

Matson to raise shipping rates
HONOLULU - It will soon cost more to ships goods to and from Hawaii.
Matson Navigation Co. said Monday that it plans to raise rates by an average of 5.5 percent for Hawaii service.
Effective Jan. 5, rates for Hawaii service will increase by $175 per westbound container and $85 per eastbound container. The company will also raise its terminal handling charge by $50 per westbound container and $25 per eastbound container.
Senior Vice President Dave Hoppes says the increase will help offset operating costs and support service investments.
Effective Jan. 26, Matson will raise rates for Guam, Northern Marianas and Micronesia services by $275 and raise its West Coast handling charge by $75.
