Pasang wins two Jiu Jitsu Triple Crown titles
Tenzin Pasang of Maui Grappling Academy earned two Hawaii Triple Crown of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu points titles with a pair gold medals in the Aloha State Championship on Saturday at the Pearl City High School gym on Oahu.
Pasang took the middle-weight/heavyweight blue-belt division gold, and also finished first in the no-gi intermediate division on Saturday, giving him the blue-belt and intermediate division Triple Crown points titles.
Rolan Sumabat was Saturday's silver medalist in the featherweight white-belt and no-gi beginner divisions.
Scharein receives USTA service award
Chris Scharein received the USTA Hawaii Pacific Section's Maui District Tennis Association Service Award during the organization's awards banquet Saturday at in Honolulu.
The award "honors a volunteer, official, coach or individual who has made outstanding contributions to tennis."
Scharein has been a section board member since 2003 and the president of the Maui district since 2002.
Mud bog event scheduled for Sunday
A mud bog event is scheduled for Sunday at Maui Motorsports Park's Paradise Speedway track in Puunene.
Gates will open 7:30 a.m., and races will begin at 9 a.m.
Drivers can register from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at the pit shack.
Spectator admission is $10 for adults and $2 for youths 6-12, with no charge for anyone 5 and under.
