1938 - One of the liveliest and funniest bits of film entertainment of the current season is "Blockhead" starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Showing on the same bill is a western drama, "Border G-Man" with George O'Brien in the lead.

1963 - The Pauwela cannery of Libby, McNeill & Libby was the scene of the end of an era Thursday when the last of 3,000 cases of pineapple was processed. David Cup Choy, acting Maui Division manager for Libby, expressed confidence that Pauwela employees who did "good work for Libby," will continue to do so for the new owners of the plant - Haserot Pineapple Co. Ltd.

1988 - The Maui Research & Technology Park is being restructured as a local partnership, because the Mainland developers withdrew, and the new goal for beginning construction is March. President Donald Malcolm of the Maui Economic Development Board said the identities of the new investment team cannot be revealed until papers are signed.

2003 - The Golden Jade Restaurant, a family-run Wailuku eatery once world-renowned for its sweet, red kau yuk and plump manapua, was reduced to rubble Friday. Owners Albert and Shirley Chee said it was an emotional time watching the demolition of the restaurant they ran for nearly 40 years before closing it in 1995.
