Class in community service

November 1, 2013
The Maui News
Kihei Charter School 6th-graders Kylie Robinson (foreground from left) and Oliva Augustine, both 11, place weeds in a bag held by teacher Lisa Kepler while taking part in a community service project at South Maui Community Park last week. Kylie said that she enjoyed breaking a sweat for the good of the community. “It makes me feel good, because I’m doing something for other people and not myself,” she said. Soccer player classmate Hobbes Wilstead added, “It’s cool, because I play here and it’s good that the field is being taken care of.” Kepler said that the students do a community service project every week, often helping the Kihei Community Association with projects.
