When people cite random myths as facts, it irks me enough to start typing letters to The Maui News.
Case in point: The myth cited by a Sept. 19 letter writer that the founder of The Weather Channel, John Coleman, and 30,000 scientists are suing Al Gore over his global warming claims. About five years ago, Coleman made a video in which he said he would take Gore to court over his supposedly unfounded claims, but he never did. In the same video, Coleman mentions 30,000 scientists who apparently signed a petition urging politicians to reject any policies based on concerns over global warming. No word of the scientists suing Gore.
In any case, it is more than questionable that all the signatures on the so-called Oregon Petition are really from scientists, as the list includes the names of Charles Darwin (scientist but dead), Elvis Presley (not a scientist and dead) and Donald Duck.
