Kamehameha Schools Maui football coach Cody Nakamura has been suspended for one game by the school after an incident involving Maui High player Andre Pierman during the Sabers' 27-14 win on Saturday night at Kanaiaupuni Stadium in Pukalani.
Pierman finished a 36-yard kickoff return midway through the second quarter, and after running out of bounds, ran into Nakamura.
In a video of the play, Pierman can be seen falling to the turf after the contact, behind Nakamura, who moves forward in the other direction to retrieve the ball and hand it to the referee.
Pierman gets up and points at the Kamehameha bench before returning to his sideline. A 10-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on Maui High on the play.
"I can confirm that we did an investigation and are doing what is appropriate," Kamehameha Maui athletic director Blane Gaison said Thursday. "We have confirmed that there was an incident and we have moved on it. We have taken all the appropriate actions."
Gaison said Nakamura's job is not in jeopardy. Nakamura declined comment and said all questions should be directed to Gaison.

"He is a young coach with a lot of enthusiasm," Gaison said. "We are moving forward with Cody Nakamura as our head coach."
Maui Interscholastic League executive director Joe Balangitao said the league would not further discipline the 26-year-old Nakamura.
The Warriors have a bye this week. Their next game is scheduled for Sept. 27, at King Kekaulike. Kamehameha has not said who will serve as head coach in that game.
Gaison said that he had contacted Maui High principal Bruce Anderson and AD Michael Ban and that Maui High is "satisfied" with the action taken against Nakamura.
Ban said only: "We have had communication on this matter."
Nakamura was hired by Kamehameha in April after spending time as an assistant with Baldwin.
"We will continue to make sure we do things the right way," Gaison said.
