1913 - Preparations are being made for the interisland bowling tournament that every year keeps up interest in the indoor game. The Puunene bowlers are very keen on the proposition, and they are doing all they can to get into condition for the fray. The best bowlers will be selected and Maui should be able to show the bowlers of other islands that her athletes are better than any of the rest.

1938 - Puunene Meat Market is offering specials for Saturday only. T-bone steaks are 30 cents a pound. Pork chops are 35 cents a pound, and sliced bacon is 45 cents a pound. Delivery service to Wailuku and Kahului is available twice daily.

1963 - Every Friday and Saturday, there is dancing. Music by Maui's famous Molina Brothers at Club Rodeo Steak House in Makawao.

1988 - Maui Soda & Ice Works Ltd. bottled its last commercial run of Coca-Cola last week, shutting down a production line that began in 1924. From now on, Coke on Maui will come from other plants in Honolulu or Washington. Maui Soda shut down production when the cost was raised by bottle collectors.

2003 - Decades after they graduated, some alumni of old Maui High might be facing their toughest test yet. Can they restore their beloved school that has fallen victim to termites, vandals and the elements? With the roof caved in and the floors too rotten to walk on, the group calling itself the Friends of Old Maui High might have given up had they not been rallied by the spirit of the late U.S. Rep. Patsy Mink who walked these halls as a member of the class of 1944.
