Imua Family Services, with its team of specialized children's therapists, is hosting a free drop-in fair at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center in Kahului from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 7.
Families can meet and speak with therapists regarding their children's strengths and any possible areas of concern regarding growth, behavior and development.
Around the shopping center's center stage, Imua will set up individual talk-story tables where parents can have private one-on-one conversations with staff.
Rochelle Dunning, special instruction teacher, and Dean Wong, Imua’s executive director, will entertain with puppets and sing-alongs.
On stage, Auntie Ro (Rochelle Dunning, special instruction teacher) and Uncle Deano (Dean Wong, Imua's executive director) will entertain with puppets and sing-alongs.
Special appearances will include Maui Taiko at 11:30 a.m. and special guest appearances by Hello Kitty.
Speech language pathologist Ashley Jung will be available to communicate in American Sign Language and be able to provide information to families.
Other Imua therapists on hand to answer questions will include occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, physical therapists, special instruction educators and Imua's care coordination services staff.
The event focuses on children from birth through age 6.
Each child/family that receives a developmental screening from Imua's team will receive a coupon for a free train ride on the Cubby Caboose that day.
Imua Family Services provides comprehensive early childhood development services to children with developmental delays, special needs and disabilities, and to their families.
Each year, more than 2,500 community members on Maui and Lanai receive support from Imua Family Services through the Infant & Child Development Program, Early Childhood Development Program, Newborn Hearing Screening and Camp Imua.
