Social media leader part of presentation
Ka'anapali Beach Resort will host "A Social Media Conversation" with Ann Tran and Joyce Cherrier from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.
Tran was named by Hayden Shaughnessy of Forbes magazine as one of 2013's Top 20 Women Social Media Influencers and a regular contributor to the Huffington Post.

Benefit for Kihei house fire victims
The fundraiser for the Bagorio/Ulep families, who lost their multi-family Kihei home to a fire June 23, will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cafe O'Lei restaurant at The Dunes at Maui Lani in Kahului.

Group to tour airport fire dept.
A "Rotary on the Road" vocational tour of the Kahului Airport Fire Department will replace the regular morning meeting of the Rotary Club of Kihei Sunrise on Wednesday.
Tour participants will meet at gate 841 at 9:20 a.m. The one-hour tour will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Flu shots available at 2 pharmacies
Flu shots for the 2013-14 flu season are available at the Foodland Pharmacy located at the Pukalani Terrace Center and the new Napili Market Pharmacy at the Napili Market Place in Napili.
Flu shots are given at no charge to those 18 and over and insured by HMSA, HMSA Quest, HMA, Medicare, HMAA and UHA. The cash price is $30. No appointments are necessary.

Volunteer center announces contest
HandsOn Maui, the county's volunteer center, is holding its first Facebook photo contest, "Capturing the Heart of Giving."
The contest is sponsored by the county and the Tri Isle Resource Conservation & Development Council.
Contest organizers are looking for photos of volunteers in action that show the service, kindness, love and inspiration of helping others, according to a news release.

Author to speak at Rotary meeting
The Rotary Club of Maui will host Eve Hogan, an inspirational speaker, labyrinth facilitator, relationship coach and author of multiple books, at its noon meeting Thursday in the Class Act Dining Room at the University of Hawaii Maui College. The topic of her talk will be "The Way of the Winding Path."
Hogan has written several books, including "Way of the Winding Path," "How to Love Your Marriage" and "Intellectual Foreplay." Her latest release, "The EROS Equation," is due out in October. Hogan also writes for Spirituality & Health magazine. As executive director of the Divine Nature Alliance, she oversees The Sacred Garden on Maui.

Nabavi buys seeds for school gardens
Paris Nabavi, who operates two restaurants in West Maui, has offered to cover all the organic seed purchases for the Maui School Garden Network for the third year in a row, according to a news release.
Nabavi is sponsoring organic seed purchases for school gardens throughout the islands of Maui, Molokai and Lanai and working in the community to change the way families eat at school and at home.
More than 5,000 children in Maui County have been impacted by the Maui School Garden Network and its partner organizations, which cover 41 school garden programs for grades kindergarten through 12.
Nabavi runs Pizza Paradiso at Honokowai Marketplace. His second restaurant, Cilantro Mexican Grill in Lahaina Center, will close in late 2013 as he transitions to a new Mexican restaurant scheduled to open in the fall, Sangrita Grill & Cantina.
It will be located at the Fairway shops in Kaanapali. Nabavi has also pledged to support garden program expansions at Lahainaluna High School and Maui Preparatory Academy.

Dinner to benefit Maui Swim Club
Maui Swim Club, led by Head Coach Spencer Shiraishi Sr., will hold a fundraiser dinner with Vineyard Food Co. on Friday and Saturday. There will be two seatings, at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Fifteen percent of all proceeds will be donated to Maui Swim Club to assist with travel expenses for the coaches to Neighbor Island swim meets.
