Foundations and entities who contributed recently to Maui County community nonprofits and others are as follows:
* The Pa'ia Youth Council Inc. received $25,000 in support from the Omidyar 'Ohana Fund and $5,000 in support from the Rev. Takie Okumura Family Fund.
These grants were awarded through the Hawai'i Community Foundation FLEX grants program.
This program was created by the Hawai'i Community Foundation to provide Hawaii's nonprofits with a source of flexible, unrestricted support so that they can continue to provide essential programs in their community.
* The 27th Annual Kapalua Clambake Pro-Am Invitational held June 28-30 on the Bay and Plantation Courses at Kapalua, managed by Troon Golf, recently announced the total amount donated to Special Olympics Maui from the event.
The Clambake consisted of 30 four-person teams. During the event, Special Olympics Maui facilitated a putting contest, a closest-to-the-pin contest, a T-shirt sale and a silent auction, which generated a total of $12,581.
According to Adrienne Laurion, regional director of Special Olympics Maui County, "The money will be used for our three soccer teams and 65 bocce players. They are currently training and will be competing on Oahu at the Aukake Classic Aug. 17-18. We currently have 267 athletes between Lanai, Maui and Molokai, and we look forward to continued growth."
