Governor takes in rehearsal of ‘Les Miserables’

August 14, 2013
The Maui News
Gov. Neil Abercrombie visited the Maui Film Studios in Maui Lani on Saturday and watched the cast of the local production of “Les Miserables” rehearse “One Day More.” He was reportedly moved to tears by the performance of the signature tune. The governor (second from left) is shown with Socrates Buenger (from left), Maui Film Studios chief executive officer; Kathleen Buenger; David Johnston; Jerry Embree; and Andre Morissette. Saturday’s rehearsal was the last for the cast at the studio, which had allowed them to use the soundstage. The cast and crew will now take its show to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater for performances Friday to Sunday and Aug. 23-25. The show is produced by Maui Academy of Performing Arts in partnership with Auriol Naquin Flavell, Maui Chamber Orchestra & Chorus, Maui Film Studios and Michael & Marji Tibbott. Tickets are available through the MACC Box Office at or by calling 242-7469.
