Larsen advances at U.S. Open of Surfing
Granger Larsen of Napili won his U.S. Open second-round heat Wednesday, advancing at the Association of Surfing Professionals prime event in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Larsen had a score of 12.26, edging Morocco's Ramzi Boukhiam (12.10). Australia's Garrett Parkes was third and Florida's Cory Lopez fourth.
In the next round, Larsen will be grouped with Hodei Collazo of the Basque country and Australia's Matt Banting. None of the entrants in that round will be eliminated, though heat winners will receive a bye.
Larsen also won his first-round heat.
Olamana Eleogram of Hana placed fourth in his first-round heat, while Tanner Hendrickson and Kai Barger of Haiku were eliminated in qualifying.
Hashizaki aces No. 16 at Waiehu
Gary Hashizaki of Pukalani recorded a hole-in-one at Waiehu Municipal Golf Course on Wednesday.
Hashizaki aced the 16th hole, using a 7-iron for the 116-yard shot, which was witnessed by Tom Tamasaka, Russ Allen and Juanito Viloria.
Girls basketball clinic set for next month
A free basketball fundamentals clinic for girls entering 5th through 8th grade is scheduled for Aug. 1-30 in Lahaina, with sessions three days per week.

Women's basketball league seeks teams
A women's basketball league season is scheduled for Aug. 11 to the end of October.
The league will be limited to eight teams.

Maui United training sessions scheduled
Maui United Soccer Club will conduct training Tuesday and Aug. 6 at Kahului Community Center.
Sessions for youths 7-12 are scheduled for 3:45-5:15 p.m. each day, and sessions for youths 13-15 are scheduled 5:15-6:45 p.m.
Participants should wear cleats and shin guards, and bring water and a ball.
