July 25, 2013
The Maui News
The Central Maui Little League All-Stars pose at Kahului Airport on Wednesday after claiming the state Majors (11-12) Division title with a 2-0 win over Waipio at Kilauea District Park on Oahu. Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa and Jacob Chong combined on a two-hitter for Central Maui — Hoopii-Tuionetoa struck out nine batters while permitting one hit in five innings. Chong also scored Maui’s second run, on a pinch-hit single by Micah Saki. Central Maui, which went 4-1 in the tournament, will begin play in the West Regional in San Bernardino, Calif., on Aug. 2 against the Southern California champion. The regional concludes Aug. 10. Central Maui is the fourth Valley Isle youth baseball team to win a state crown this summer, joining the Maui Mustangs (9-10), Central Maui in the Little League Junior (13-14) Division and Kihei in the Big League (17-18) Division.
