The following students with ties to Maui County have earned degrees at colleges and universities:
Joanna P. Harran, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne J. Harran of Pukalani, received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, on May 26.
Harran graduated cum laude and was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She will attend Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, Conn., in August to pursue a masters in nursing and qualify as a nurse practitioner.
Kathrine Tadeo of Lahaina has been awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in business management, international business from Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash.
Beverly Castillo received a doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Tempe, Ariz., in March.
Castillo, a Lahainaluna High School graduate, is the daughter of Peter and Leonora Castillo.
She attained her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo., with a bachelor's degree in human biology and chemistry.
Following her undergraduate degree, she attended pharmacy school at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver before attending Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in 2009.
Mitchell Fukumoto graduated from Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on June 16 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science with a concentration in human-computer interaction.
He has accepted a position with Facebook as a front end engineer focusing on website and mobile application design. The company is located in Menlo Park, Calif.
The son of Ronald and Kay Fukumoto of Kahului, he is a 2009 graduate of Baldwin High School.
He was among fewer than 200 graduating seniors who were awarded the prestigious Stanford Award of Excellence, which is presented to seniors who exemplify service to Stanford, leadership in student activities and a dedication to the university.
