Maui United romps to tournament title
The Maui United Soccer Club 2002 boys team won the Hawaii International Cup last weekend on Oahu, outscoring its four opponents 23-0.
Maui United defeated Surf Hawaii 5-0, won 2-0 over the Honolulu Soccer Club '02 Bulls, beat Ekahi Hui 11-0 and recorded a 5-0 victory over the Honolulu Soccer Club Ka'ula '03 Bulls.

"The HSC Bulls beat us in overtime 4-3 back in February at the President's Day Cup, so it was a huge accomplishment to come back and beat them at their own tournament," said Maui United coaching director Brent Nunes. "It just goes to show that our program is working and all their hard work has really paid off. I'm so proud of these boys and see great things in their future."
The Maui United roster comprised Gabriel Andrion, Aikala Chappell, Eric Doolin, Henry Johnston, Luke Kawabe, Kanoa Kelii, Kobi-Ryne Kuge, Raul Lopez, Tomas Martinez, Cade Mattos, Samuel Ostermiller, Isaiah Souza and Elliot Tom. The coaches were Chuck and Blake Nunes.
Trotto wins three golds at masters track meet
Mary Trotto of Kihei claimed three gold medals in the USA Track and Field masters outdoor championships, which took place Thursday to Sunday in Olathe, Kan.
Trotto won the women's 65 pentathlon as the lone competitor, totaling 1,335 points. She had times of 29.03 seconds in the 80-meter short hurdles and 4:34.61 in the 800, a long jump of 1.96 meters, a high jump of 0.93 and a shot put of 6.29.
Racing alone in the 2,000-meter steeplechase, Trotto had a time of 14:05.26. She also won the pole vault with a height of 1.00 meters -she was the only entrant to clear the bar.
Trotto was second in the 100 (20.47 seconds), javelin (17.86 meters), and discus, and placed third in the 200, weight throw, high jump and shot put and was fourth in the long jump, triple jump.
Race for the Cup golf tournament Aug. 31
The third annual Race for the Cup golf tournament, a benefit for the Kihei Youth Center, is set for Aug. 31 at The Dunes at Maui Lani in Kahului, with registration at 6 a.m. and a shotgun start scheduled for 6:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $125, which will also pay for eligibility for a raffle and prizes, as well as a luncheon. Sponsorships are also available.
