The Maui Okinawa Kenjin Kai has awarded $1,000 scholarships to three Valley Isle high school graduates.
The students are:
* Lena Knue of Baldwin High School. She is the daughter of Greg Knue and Leona Kushi of Wailuku. She plans to attend Tokei University in Honolulu for two years before transferring to another school abroad to complete her university degree.

JOHN VAN SCOY, of Seabury Hall
* Reece Murata of Baldwin High School. He is the son of Alan and Ruth Murata. In the fall, he will be attending the University of Portland to major in civil engineering.
* John Van Scoy of Seabury Hall. He is the son of Rich and Annette Van Scoy of Kula. He will be attending Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., with plans to complete his undergraduate studies in human physiology, then pursuing a doctorate in physical therapy.
The scholarship recipients will meet with the general membership of Kenjin Kai during the group's annual picnic this month.
