Maui teams go 1-2 at Pony tournaments
Hoku Dudoit tripled twice for Maui in a 6-5 victory over Kona on Saturday in a Hawaii Region Pony Baseball Tournament Mustang Division game at Walter Victor Complex in Hilo.
Dylan Mahuna and Wehiwa Aloy also had two hits apiece for Maui (1-1).
In the Bronco Division, Makakilo-Kapolei scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated Maui 4-3. Tristan Catan pitched a complete game for Maui, which fell to 1-1.
Hilo defeat Maui 14-1 in a Pony 13 game. Maui is winless in two games in that division.
Scholarship golf event set for July 20
The Maui Bar Association Scholarship Golf Tournament is scheduled for July 20 at King Kamehameha Golf Club in Waikapu, with registration at 6:15 a.m. and a shotgun start scheduled for 7 a.m.
The entry fee for the two-person scramble is $160 per player, which also pays for breakfast, use of a cart and an awards luncheon. Up to four mulligans can be purchased for $5 each, and entry into the closest-to-the-pin contest is $20.
Sponsorships and prize donations are also being sought.

Youth basketball league accepting applications
The Maui Youth Basketball League is accepting applications for its fall league for boys and girls born from 1998 through 2007.
Games will be played on Sunday afternoons, beginning Sept. 8, and all teams will be from Central Maui.
Applications are available at the county permits office at War Memorial complex in Wailuku, Maui Sporting Goods in Wailuku and Sports Authority in Kahului, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The deadline to apply is Aug. 4.
Coaches are also needed.
