Reading Is Fundamental and Macy's have teamed up to get books to children.
Read Aloud America will be the beneficiary of funds collected during the Be Book Smart Campaign happening at Macy's in the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center through July 21.
People who donate $3 to the fund will receive $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Macy's. (Exclusions and restrictions apply. See a Macy's associate for details.)
Asia Nunez, 8, shows two books she selected when her parents purchased two Be Book Smart Coupons.
Macy's in turn will donate the $3 to Reading Is Fundamental, to help provide free books.
Also at Macy's, Joanne Laird, program director for Read Aloud America, will have an interactive game table set up in the children's department from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through July 21.
Children are invited to "spin the wheel" to win a prize - everyone will be a winner, and some prizes on the wheel will be a brand new book. Read Aloud America will have free bumper stickers and rulers for all. If a Be Book Smart Coupon is purchased while the game table is set up, the customer will be able to select a free children's book to take home.
"We are pleased to partner with Macy's and RIF to be able to provide free books for our children who attend our Read Aloud Programs," said Laird. "Last year, Macy's Queen Ka'ahumanu Center sold 4,982 Be Book Smart Coupons - it is our hope we can surpass that total this year so more books can get into the hands of more Maui children."
