Focusing on water safety

June 25, 2013
The Maui News

First Photo: Maui County Ocean Safety Officer Mike Sparling gives Honokowai resident Clay Glass, 11, a ride on a new water rescue craft Sunday afternoon at Hanakao'o (Canoe) Beach Park. The red watercraft, which was blessed earlier in the morning, was donated by the Will Smith Foundation to help county lifeguards with rescue operations. "It's a win-win situation for us," said Archie Kalepa, operations chief with county ocean safety and vice president of the foundation. "We're very fortunate that this jet ski will be able to save lives."
