1938 - Shirley Temple is the star of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, currently showing at Maui theaters. Shirley sings throughout the picture and dances too.

1963 - After many months of indecision, Puukolii School parents reluctantly voted to request the Department of Education to consolidate Puukolii with Kamehameha III School, beginning in September. This action was taken when it became apparent that there was no possibility of having three teachers assigned to grades 1 to 8 for the estimated enrollment of 53 pupils for the fall term.

1988 - Dr. David Clark reports that he and his archaeological crew from the Catholic University of America have begun work on re-excavating the sites on the Waihee coastline that they first dug out last summer. Last summer's dig revealed a wealth of ancient Hawaiian materials that indicated the area may have been a coastal settlement.

2003 - Eight endangered nene, or Hawaiian geese, were reintroduced on Molokai last week. That brings to 55 the number of nene introduced on the island since December 2001 in a project designed to re-establish a wild population of the native Hawaiian goose on the island.
