The Maui News
The legendary Hawaiian voyaging canoe Hokule‘a arrived in Maalaea Harbor on Monday afternoon. The vessel docked at Maalaea to kick off its worldwide voyage by navigating around each island. The public may visit the canoe daily from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. until June 28. Hokule‘a and her sister voyaging canoe, Hikianalia, are sailing on the “Malama Hawaii” leg of “Malama Honua, the Worldwide Voyage,” according to the website. From May to October, the two vessels will sail 1,000 miles statewide, with stops at 30 ports, before departing for Tahiti in May 2014.
