1938 - Maui's 1938 polo season will begin with an informal match between local players, Capt. Edward H. K. Baldwin announced yesterday. Ponies have been in training at the Pukalani stables for about a month and all is in readiness for the first formal practice next Saturday. Meanwhile players are gathering at the stables for practice and training of mounts.

1963 - A four-month "work and learn" program, instituted in January at Maui Technical School, will be culminated today with the auction of a three-bedroom dwelling constructed by students on the school grounds. Some 30 students took part in the project, doing all the work - except installations of plumbing and electrical wiring - under the direction of George Sano, Ralph Lyon and Bomani Kim.

1988 - Larry Feinberg posed with his dog Louie during the poi dog contest sponsored by the Maui Humane Society at the Upcountry Fair in Makawao yesterday. Larry and Louie took first place in the "Looks Most Like the Owner" category. Louie reportedly asked for a recount.

2003 - Tyson Takeuchi, 10, was among the visitors who stopped by on the last day for the Maui Military Museum at its location Napili Plaza location on Saturday afternoon. The plaza was sold, and Maui Land & Pineapple Co., which provided the museum space to founder Alan DeCoite, told him the space was no longer available. DeCoite said he intends to reopen the museum when he can find a suitable location.
