Metals recycling program set for Molokai
A metals recycling collection program begins Wednesday and runs through June 22 on Molokai, according to an announcement from the county Department of Environmental Management.
Collections will be held 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Molokai Metals Facility, which is operated by Kitagawa's Towing & Metal Recycling.
Aside from metals, the facility also will take in vehicle tires, batteries and related materials, including propane tanks, roofing, gutters, tubs, sinks, faucets, pipes, metal furniture, bicycles, mowers, tools and fencing. No vehicles will be accepted, however. Metals should be separated from other waste materials.
People bringing items to the landfill should stop at the scale house first, then proceed directly to the Molokai Metals Facility.
There are no fees for residents, but businesses and agencies will be assessed a fee. For more information on fees, call (808) 658-9029.
The collection facility is on Maunaloa Highway at the Molokai-Naiwa Landfill.
