STAR STRUCK . . . Movie stars aren't the only celebrities descending on Maui in the next few weeks. We've also got world-famous winemakers and chefs circling into orbit.
For starters, at the Oceanfront Gala Sunday evening at Four Seasons Resort Maui in Wailea, Makana will perform as stellar winemakers like Laurent Martelet of Domaine de Cherisey wing in from France to pair wines with rock-star farmers such as William Jacinto of the certified-organic Beef 'n Blooms.
"I just love performing at Four Seasons Wailea and doing a wine event is just the best," says Makana. "What can I say, I'll seize the moment."
James Beard Award-winner Gary Danko is part of the star-studded lineup at the 32nd annual Kapalua Wine and Food Festival. He will perform a cooking demo Sunday, June 9 at the Ritz.

There will be 40 exclusive wines and 10 chef and farmers booths overlooking the beach - all part of the Vintage Wine Weekend. Call 874-8000.
The A-list of the wine and food world will also appear at the 32nd annual Kapalua Wine & Food Festival June 6 to 9 at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.
Guest chefs include San Francisco superstars Gary Danko and Nancy Oakes, both James Beard Award winners for "Best Chef in California." Obviously, not at the same time. And that's the tip of the iceberg.

"They are two of the best chefs on the planet, heroes and icons in our industry," says Host and Master Sommelier Michael Jordan (not the former basketball great, but a star in his own right).
Oakes will impress participants with a cooking demo on Saturday, June 8, with avocado risotto and summer truffles, beef takati and Big Island hearts of palm, and just-baked shortcake; and Danko will dazzle with his demo Sunday, June 9 with a dungeness crab salad, lemon-pepper duck breast, and creme-fraiche cheesecake.
Then both will cook at a winemaker dinner at Pineapple Grill June 8. Chef Lyndon Honda will consult as Chef Isaac Bancaco has left to soon head up Ka'ana Kitchen at Andaz Maui at Wailea resort when it opens this summer. Speaking of Andaz, Morimoto's there will open sometime after the hotel does. That's because Masaharu Morimoto, renowned Japanese chef and star of Food Network's "Iron Chef America," is also working on opening a restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip at The Mirage.
But I digress from Ritz wine festival happenings. Look for more in Maui Scene in coming weeks. For tickets, visit www.kapaluawineandfoodfestival.com.
Maui's star power continues as a few of our own peeps are hitting the airwaves.
For instance, the iconic Komoda Store, which has been a Makawao staple for almost 100 years, will be featured on PBS today, according to fan Roberta Hodara, smitten with its doughnuts. "Hikino" airs at 7:30 p.m. and Komoda's segment is somewhere in it.
Chef-owner Alan Wong of Alan Wong's Amasia at Grand Wailea will appear at 9 tonight on the PBS show, "Family Ingredients," touring Oahu and Japan.
Maui boys Jensen Yip and Kevin Scofield now live in Portland, Ore., and run a popular Hawaiian-style food truck called, 808 Grinds. They were just featured Tuesday on "Eat Street" on the Cooking Channel.
Last but not least, Maui Girlz Shave Ice that's parked at the Maui Swap Meet from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays is run by sisters Christiana and Jessica Griffiths. Jessica starred with Clint Eastwood in "Hereafter." The shave ice truck's best-selling flavor is coffee, which includes caramel and chocolate sauces and whipped cream. Rainbow shave ice, move over!
BITS AND PIECES . . Situated in Kaanapali at the Fairway Shops is the hugely popular CJs Comfort Zone Deli and Diner.
