Troy Barboza run for Special Olympics

May 22, 2013
The Maui News
The Maui Police Department held the annual First Hawaiian Bank Troy Barboza Law Enforcement Torch Run on Molokai on May 4 and on Maui on May 11. The proceeds from entry fees and sales of T-shirts went to Special Olympics Maui, with the funds helping athletes on Maui, Molokai and Lanai. The Maui event (shown) began at First Hawaiian Bank in Kahului and ended on the Maui High School softball field. The Molokai event began at the Molokai Education Center and ended on the Kaunakakai Ball Field. At both ball fields, there was a potluck, followed by a softball game between run participants and Special Olympics unified softball teams. Joining the run were representatives of the Maui Police Department, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Transportation Security Administration, American Medical Response, Haleakala National Park and others.
